Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer with Carteret County Public Schools. We appreciate your willingness to serve the children of our county. Volunteers are a vital and valued part of the school system community as they serve to assist our educators in the efficient instruction and supervision of our students.
Each school arranges new volunteer training throughout the school year. You may receive the volunteer application at the training or at the link below. After you complete the volunteer training and the application, turn in the documentation to the school secretary. The school will forward the documentation to our Human Resources department to process your background check. Upon approval of the background screening, Human Resources will notify the school of your eligibility to volunteer.
If you have volunteered in our system previously and you completed the volunteer training in the past you need not complete the process again. You need only to go through the process once as your information is maintained in our database.
Please know that you do not have to be an approved volunteer to visit our schools. Per our policy, volunteers provide direct services to or supervision of students. Volunteers have direct contact with students under limited supervision by school staff on a schedule basis, may spend solitary time with student(s) for short periods of time, may be outside the view of school staff or other adults with students for extended periods of time, and may be used as chaperones on field trips. Examples of volunteers are, but are not limited to, participating as a tutor during or after school, a mentor, a field trip chaperone or volunteer driver, a volunteer coach, a volunteer with band/chorus/clubs on a scheduled basis, a medical helper, and a scheduled classroom helper. CCPS BOE Policy 5015 Individuals not serving in these capacities may just be a visitor and are not required to go through the volunteer process. You may confirm your status with the volunteer facilitator at each school.
Again, thank you for your interest in volunteering at our schools. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our schools or the Human Resources department.
Sincerely,
Blair E. Propst
