We’re pleased to share that Canvas access will be restored beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
Following a thorough forensic review by cybersecurity experts at CrowdStrike, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction has informed us that the Canvas environment is considered safe for operations. Investigators found no evidence of an active compromise or ongoing threat, and statewide services are being restored.
Beginning tomorrow morning, students, staff, and families may resume normal use of:
✅ Canvas through web browsers and NCEdCloud
✅ The Canvas mobile app
✅ Off-campus courses and NCVPS materials
We are incredibly grateful to our teachers, staff, students, and families for your patience, flexibility, and partnership throughout this disruption. Learning continued because of your commitment.

Carteret County Public Schools has now received direct confirmation from Instructure, the parent company of Canvas, that our district was among institutions impacted in the recent national cybersecurity incident.
Following guidance from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and to help protect student and staff information, CCPS has suspended all access to Canvas until further notice.
Students, staff, and parents should NOT attempt to access Canvas through:
• Web browsers
• The Canvas mobile app
• NCVPS or off-campus Canvas courses
Our technology team is working alongside state cybersecurity experts to evaluate the situation and protect district data. While Canvas access is temporarily unavailable, teaching and learning will continue across CCPS.
We appreciate your patience and partnership as we prioritize the security of our students, staff, and systems.

At this time, there is no confirmation that any Carteret County Public Schools data has been compromised.
We are also alerting families to recent scam attempts involving individuals falsely claiming to represent ACT or other testing organizations and requesting payment information. Please remember: CCPS and NCDPI will never request payment for state-required testing by phone, email, or text.
We encourage families to remain vigilant and cautious of any suspicious messages or calls.

Morehead City Elementary at Camp Glenn tells a story more than a century in the making 🌊
Established in 1906 as Camp Glenn, this site began as a North Carolina National Guard training camp before evolving into something even greater. During World War I, it was transformed into a U.S. Navy base, and by 1920–1921, it became one of the nation’s first Coast Guard air stations ✈️⚓
As the years passed, this historic ground transitioned from preparing soldiers to preparing students. The campus became home to Camp Glenn Elementary, and later, with district growth and reorganization, it evolved into Morehead City Elementary at Camp Glenn—carrying both names and legacies forward.
Today, the school serves as a dedicated grades 4–5 campus, intentionally designed by Carteret County Public Schools to support students as they transition from primary school to middle school—giving them the confidence, independence, and academic foundation they need for what comes next 🌱
From military training grounds to a thriving school community, this campus has always been about preparing for the future—just in different ways.
📸 Take a look at how far we’ve come… and how strong the future is. If you have any memories of Morehead City Elementary or Camp Glenn Elementary, please post your memories or photos. What a history and a legacy!
