Carteret County Public Schools has announced that Ms. Mary Ellington will become the newest Principal of Bogue Sound Elementary School.
Ms. Ellington currently serves as Principal of Morehead City Primary School and previously served as Assistant Principal at Bogue Sound Elementary School during the 2020–2021 school year.
"I am honored and excited to begin this new chapter as Principal of Bogue Sound Elementary," said Ellington. "After three years as Principal of Morehead City Primary, I am thrilled to return to the Bogue Sound community. Serving as Assistant Principal during 2020–2021 gave me the opportunity to work alongside the incredible staff, students, and families who make BSES so special. I look forward to building on Bogue Sound’s tradition of excellence and working together to support the success of every student."
Superintendent Richard Paylor said, "We are grateful for Ms. Ellington's leadership and service to MCPS over the past three years. While we know she will be missed there, I believe this move is a great opportunity for her and a strong fit for Bogue Sound Elementary.”
Mr. Paylor also said that CCPS will begin an active search for the next principal of MCPS and remains committed to finding the right leader to build on the great work already taking place there. He also thanked Ms. Ashley Medlin, who recently announced her resignation, for her years of leadership at CCPS and as Principal of Bogue Sound Elementary.
Ms. Ellington will begin as BSES Principal on July 1, 2026.
