Challenge yourself to participate in the Young Authors' Project

NCRA 2009-2010 Young Authors’ Theme:

“Surfing the waves to literacy”

 The theme for the 2009-2010 Young Authors’ Project is “Surfing the waves to literacy”.  Young Authors’ are encouraged to write in poetry or prose, as fiction or non-fiction.  Students and Forever Young writers might write about trips to the beach, living at the coast, discoveries of things you find at the beach, things that live in the ocean, things they do or eat that are different or unusual, or favorite beach stories or books they have read.  Let your students experiment-they will surprise you!

Guidelines to follow:

  • All entries must be original creations.
  • All entries must be typed in Microsoft WORD (not Works) format using the “Times New Roman” font and ready for publication.
  • There should be an original title typed in BOLD, 12 font (only capitalize as according to capitalization rules) i.e. Surfing and the Giant Wave
  • Text of story should be typed in ( regular not bold faced) single space, 10 font
  • Author information should follow the story, double spaced, and be in the following format, 10 font:

  • Grades 9-12 and Forever Young should have no more than 500 words total.
  • Only one entry per person may be submitted.
  • A completed “Young Authors Entry Form” must be taped on the back of each entry. Teachers must include the cover sheet with their entries.
  • Art work may be submitted with a written entry by the same person. (Only send original artwork-no copies please!)
  • Your entry must be given to your teacher before Nov. 13, 2009 to be considered for selection.
  • Your teacher may select 3 from your class to be sent in for county judging by the Nov. 20th deadline.
  • Entries for state competition must be postmarked by Saturday, December 5, 2009.  Therefore, CCRC will judge  Nov. 24, 2009 .Entries from local councils must be submitted by the local council Young Author Chair/Co-Chair only.
