Reading Writing Connection There are a variety of ways in which writing can be used to increase comprehension or reading good literature can enhance writing skills. After reading a good book with your child, discuss:
Help your child identify good beginnings, middles, and endings to their favorite stories. What descriptive language or vivid verbs help them see images or action in the story? Look for the way the author shows emotion rather than telling. For example: Tommy was sad. Tommy's lip quivered as the tears trickled down his cheeks. All children have opinions, and they love to tell you what they think. Ask them to write or dictate to you about the following:
