WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU CAN'T READ A WORD

*   Reread and think about what would make sense.

*   Look at the word again (beginning, ending and middle).

*   Tap it out.

*   Think about what would sound right.

*   See if it looks like a word you've seen before.

*   Put word parts together (re  play).

*   Stretch out the letters and blend them.

*   Substitute a word that makes sense.

*   Read on, come back, try again.

*   Skip the word and go on.

*   Look for word families.
