Welcome to the White Oak Elementary School Media Center. Our Media Center provides a warm, relaxed atmosphere for students and staff as they browse for books, read quietly, or use one of the fifteen media computers. Students visit the library weekly for a lesson and book checkout. Students also come in small groups during the day to check out books, take AR tests, or do research on the computers. Students participate in the Accelerated Reading Program and work towards set goals. Teachers and Media Center staff work together to monitor reading growth. We encourage students to read books that challenge their reading progress through the school year and help them learn to choose books that are within their reading levels. |

| Media Center Rules: 1. Use quiet voices at all times. 2. Walk. 3. Listen carefully to the teacher and each other 4. Follow directions. 5. Keep hands and feet to yourself |
| Checkout Policy: Students may check out books for a
period of two weeks, after which they become overdue. There is no fine for
overdue materials, but the student will not be allowed to check out another
book until the overdue item is returned or renewed. A book must be brought
in to the media center to be renewed. Kindergarten and First Grade students may check out one book. Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade students may check out two books for reading and a third book if the teacher has assigned a class report or project. (Teachers will inform the media center staff when their students need a third book.) |
| Lost and Damaged Books: Students will be charged for the cost of a lost or damaged book. They will not be able to check out books until charged have been paid. |
