The following is the letter sent home to parents regarding our
unit on recorders.

General Music Program 2009-2010
Dear Fourth/Fifth Grade Parent:
In an effort to broaden your child’s musical
experience, we are going to start a unit of work with recorders
during March.
The recorder is one of our earliest musical
instruments, dating back to the Middle Ages. Historically, it is
one step in the development of our modern flute. The Soprano
Recorder is ideal for music study in the classroom. It is
inexpensive, small in size, easy to blow, has a pleasant tone
quality, and a simple fingering system.
Students in fourth grade will be using the
recorders for two years, this year in fourth grade and next year in
fifth grade.
We will be using the most popular and effective
recorder method available, Recorder Karate. Students will
thoroughly enjoy this motivational program. Music for this program
will be provided during class.
A package price of $6.50 will include a
recorder (color of their choice), ring for belts, fingering chart
and instrument bag. Parents may fill out the attached order form and
pay by cash or check, payable to White Oak Elementary School.
We hope that each family will purchase this
kit. I am enthusiastic about this recorder program and urge your
support. I feel this new musical activity will be a rewarding
experience for your child.
Students will receive their instruments during
music class during the first two weeks of March.
