GRADING POLICY

Students will be evaluated in music class, based on the following criteria:

50% OF THE GRADE IS BASED ON:

MUSICIANSHIP

  • Sing in tune and follow written music to the best of his/her ability

  • Achieve good vocal tone quality

  • Play instruments with proper technique

  • Exhibit critical listening skills

  • Show respect for musical efforts of others

MUSICAL KNOWLEDGE AND APPLICATION

  • Recognize connections between music and other academic areas

  • Varies with age and specific content curriculum (see NC Standard Course of Study for Music)

50% OF THE GRADE IS BASED ON:

PARTICIPATION AND EFFORT

  • Actively engaged through participation

  •  Be the best musician they can be

  • Exhibit a positive attitude

RESPECTFUL AND RESPONSIBLE

  • Show respect for teacher, other students, instruments and materials

  • Cooperate in all situations

  • Obey classroom and school guidelines

As the students attend class, informal assessments will take place in which they will receive one of the following  marks. Formal assessments can be graded on numeric or symbolic scale.

4...Student always demonstrate the above criteria during specific activity/music class.

3....Student demonstrates the above criteria most of the time during specific activity/music class.

2...Student demonstrates the above criteria some of the time during specific activity/music class.

1...Student demonstrates the above criteria rarely during specific activity/music class.

0...Student does not perform at all in music class.
