White
Oak Elementary School Important
Parent Information
Growth can be positive and it can be negative. Our school
population has grown over the past several years. That is positive because
it means our communities are inviting and caring places where families
want to live and rear their children. Over the last three years, White Oak
Elementary has added five mobile classrooms, three classroom teaching
positions and a half-time reading specialist position.
The negative side of this growth is WOES is cramped for space. We
are currently using every available space within our school building.
Our surrounding campus is being impacted greatly by our growth as
well, especially the parking areas and student drop-off and pick-up
points. The influx of
vehicles and foot traffic immediately before and after dismissal has
become a safety concern for everyone.
In the coming weeks you will see and hear about changes in
procedures for student pick-ups and drop-off. Please be patient as we work
through this. We are trying several things to see what works best for us.
It is not our desire to have parents inconvenienced or upset. It is our
desire to abide by state statutes and guidelines pertaining to school
traffic control. First and foremost, it is our desire to keep your
children safe.
It is our goal to have a newly designed plan in place when we
return to school after the December break.
Until then, I ask you to be patient and help us work through the
next few months. At this point, we will only be re-designing the current
traffic flow and pick-up procedures. There are no immediate plans (or
funding) for more space. With that in mind and as you observe the
afternoon dismissal plans, feel free to give us feedback on ways you think
might improve what we are doing. Thank you!
