Volunteer list will be emailed to teachers and teacher will email the parents in their class to let them know they have been approved. If a volunteer has not heard from their child’s teacher, they need to email the teacher to see if they are on the approved list. · Class sizes are averaging 25 children per class, there is 1 empty classroom and 2 trailers available. · Any teacher concerns need to be addressed with Ms. Everett · “Bubba” McLean is leading a $15,000 technology fundraiser for WOES, monies will be used to purchase 18 document cameras (takes place of overhead projectors), 4 memeos and the subscription for IXL math program; monies are going through the foundation for White Oak Elementary School, checks need to be written with WOES on the memo line, donations of a $100 or more will receive a tax deduction letter (all monies are tax deductible, but only those of $100 or more will receive a letter) · Vision for the future: currently seeking a grant that would allow each Kindergarten student to have their own iPad (in-school use); would not replace pencil and paper or teacher instruction · Why are kids alternating days of PE and recess? State wanted to add 5 days of instruction (1,025 Hours of instruction) to the calendar this year (end of July/Aug), Carteret County asked for a waiver and requested to provide the additional instruction time throughout the year; tardy bell rings at 8:00 and instruction begins at 8:00, 150 minutes of physical exercise are required per week; classrooms are fluid, not sitting and quiet the entire day, all classes have a “take 10” after about 20-30 minutes of class time. · Families of 17 children opted to be transferred to Bogue Sound, families may still choose that option III.
