II.          Curriculum - Ms. Everett to report

Started some new things this year

Response to Instruction (RTI Program) – The RTI program is being used to take the place of the students’ assistance team.  This program is to help children who are struggling with their education.

RTI started this year with the 1st and 2nd grades with universal assessments.

Skill Builders is being used currently for resources.  Newport piloted the program last year.

Scholastic Reading Intervention (SRI) is being used to match the reading levels with the students.

Science Workshops

The county is providing Science Workshops for the teachers.  All teachers K-5 are going to the workshops.  The training will begin October 20th.

Mrs. Everett and the teachers are discussing setting up science labs possibly in the mobile units behind the school building.

The board also discussed a possibility of having after school clubs for extra education, such as Spanish and possibly Home Economics.  We would attempt to have parents volunteer to provide these classes.  Marsha and Pam are working on these ideas.

Discussion was made about email addresses for the teachers.  The email addresses are no longer available on the website.  Mrs. Everett and Mrs. DeBurkarte will work on a secure way to make the addresses available.  Contact Mrs. Everett for teacher information until they decide on a solution.

III.         School Activities - Ms. Everett to report

The White Oak Elementary web site has a calendar with the school events listed.

Martha Swiber will be sure that all PTO activities are on the calendar.

Field trips are starting to take place in all grades.

IV.        PTO report - Martha Swiber to report

~Martha will email handouts about upcoming events that will be attached to the minutes.

~PTO has named this year the “Year of the Child”.

~Different people from the community will come in at each meeting to talk about programs that can help children with various areas of development.

~Sally Foster for our first fundraiser.  We get 50% of all proceeds.  Everybody gets catalogs; however, if someone needs to order online, they will be able to and have them shipped directly to them.  Anyone who orders originally can reorder items after the sale is over and we still get the profit for this school year.

~The PTO will be selling bricks for the “Wildcat Walk” in front of the school. The bricks will be $50.00 and you can have information put on the bricks. such as your child’s name.

~The PTO is selling Spirit Wear.  Profit goes to PTO.

~Box Tops and Upromise are other ways that the PTO is asking parents to help in raising “Free Money” for the PTO.

~The PTO is planning the Fall Festival.  Several new things will be done this year, for example, auctioning a personal parking space, a raffle for a chartered fishing trip, and several other exciting raffles.

More information will be going out next week on upcoming events.

Martha passed out copies of the PTO budget that was voted on and approved at the first PTO Meeting.

WOES has a new SRO Officer.  His name is Mitch Schelinder.

New heating and air is being adjusted to comfort.

The Cafeteria has been painted and looks great!

Lynn suggested tile murals be done by the kids in the entrance hallway.

Mrs. Everett discussed the new fence around the playground on the back of the grounds and there is parking for new teachers in the back.

Projectors and screens will be used in the new rooms in the new building instead of TV’s for the morning broadcast.  The goal is to have them all in place by the end of October.

All classrooms now have PA’s so that they can call the office.
