PAC BOARD MEETING
OCTOBER 27, 2008

Call meeting to order.    8:57 AM

 

Accept Minutes.    Accepted by Lynn Daly, seconded by Marsha Atwood. 

Sent to BoE and posted on bulletin board.

 

I.  WOES PAC Projects
          Glossary of Terms - Lynn Daly will send to Mrs. Everett for completion.

Chairman Binder and Checklist - Lynn Daly is in progress of creating for the next chair.

          Bulletin Board - Pam Tanzola – Updated and okay with members

Web Page

·        Lynn Daly agreed to set up and maintain the website.  Council suggested a place on the website for comments and questions.

·        Lynn asked that all council members look at the definition of PAC on the website and email comments to her.

Newsletter - Editor   Marsha Atwood accepted this position              -Content  Board agreed content should be main points from
           minutes of meetings

              -Distribution Distribution will be electronic

          WOES PAC Mission Statement   

          Goals/objective for year?  Goals/objectives for first few months?

          Council discussed Mission Statement and goals and objectives.  Mrs. Everett pointed out that the the BoE depends on PAC for input.  The Council discussed how we could make the parents and community more aware of what PAC’s purpose is and how we can be more effective.  Members pointed out that the ID tags, the newsletter and the web page will help with community/parent awareness.  The council discussed having shirts made to wear at events to help with community awareness.  The committee agreed to hand out information cards in the carpool line on November 21st and also to attend the Parent Night at MacDaddy’s on November 17th with the shirts and name tags so that parents can be made more aware of members of PAC.  Lynn suggested that we ask teachers to mention the electronic newsletter in their handouts that go home.

 

          After school programs - Marsha Atwood & Pam Tanzola to update

Marsha and Pam shared ideas about after school programs.  Marsha will forward the information to Mrs. Everett for her review.

 

 

 

          Visitor Registration - Marsha Atwood to update

          Marsha discussed prices from various companies.  Lynn Daly suggested that we check on a pilot program.  Mrs. Everett mentioned that other principals may be interested in the information. Mrs. Everett also suggested that they discuss it with the Technical support for the school.  Marsha will support Mrs. Everett with information as Mrs. Everett decides how to move forward.

 

II.       New Business

·        Weather related days - Lynn Daly discussed the possibility of closing school in clusters verses the whole county.  The recommendation was made that we table that idea until another time.

          

·        Marsha Atwood inquired about the possibility of having a Color Guard to take care of the flags in front of the school.  Suggested that this would be a great education for the kids in the proper use of the flags.  Mrs. Everett will check on the possibility of having the 5th grade take on this responsibility.

 

III. Curriculum - Ms. Everett

·        3rd,4th, and 5th Grades are working on plans for remediation for reading and math to either remediate or enrich.

·        K-2nd Grades – The children who placed at the lower end of the levels with the RTI program are starting intervention procedures.  There will be a meeting on Thursday with the teachers at WOES and a teacher from Newport Elementary.  Newport has been using this program and this teacher will be helping to get progress monitoring started.

    

IV.  School Activities - Ms. Everett

  • Kindergarten costume parade will be October 31st at 9:45.  Parents are asked to stay in the lobby area if attending due to space issues.
  • Friday, October 31st will be Early Release at 12 noon.
  • Bully Program has started.

 

V.   PTO report - Martha Swiber

  • Martha Swiber announced that the PTO raised about $11,000.00 at the Fall Festival.  Martha discussed upcoming events which are all listed on the website. 
  • Lynn suggested that the PTO newsletter be archived on the website.

 

VI.  Transportation - Ms. Everett

  • Mrs. Everett discussed two buses having new digital cameras.
  • Mrs. Patterson explained the new “Best Behaved Bus Program” which will begin November 1st.

 

 

 

 

VII. Facilities/Maintenance - Ms. Everett

  • Projectors are being installed in the new building – thanks to support from county.
  • Wireless canopy over the whole school is up and running.
  • Approval has been given for the whole school to be painted next summer.

 

VIII.     Policy - Ms. Everett

          (Volunteer Training and Background checks)

  • Central office is working on background checks.  Military checks take longer due to different state checks. 
  • PAC members suggested the training program be revised.  Different training for the different volunteer types – chaperone, in class volunteer (parties etc) and tutoring.  The chaperone could be a read and sign form.  The class volunteer could be a different read and sign form.  While the tutor program could be in person.  This should be broad in its scope, touch on all grade/skill levels and topics.  The schools should be allowed to run their own training program, following an outline from county.
