PAC BOARD MEETING

NOVEMBER 24, 2008

 

Call meeting to order - 8:53 AM

Accept Minutes.    Minutes accepted; Motion by Marsha Atwood, Second by Lynn Daly

 

I.   Guest Speaker

          David M. Rief, Code Enforcement Official, Town of Cape Carteret

          Cape Carteret sidewalk project connecting with WOES

David explained the City of Cape Carteret needs support for a $300,000 grant for sidewalks.  This grant would require no match by the town.  Maps were passed out to board members.  David is asking for a letter of support from the board.  Decision was made for board members to discuss and make a decision at the December meeting.  Town needs letter by January 31st to meet the deadline for the grant.  David also handed out a survey for review and requested Ms Everett distribute to staff.

    

I.  WOES PAC Projects

          Meet & Greet - 11/21 update - Pam Tanzola

Board members are doing Meet and Greet 11/24 due to rain on the 21st.  Small copies of the last newsletter will be available for handout in case any of the parents did not get a copy.  Board members are to meet at 2:30 in front of the cafeteria.


          Glossary of Terms - Lynn Daly

Copies have been distributed.  Lynn asked that feedback be to her by December 5th.  Grade level chairs are also reviewing the glossary.

          Bulletin board - Pam Tanzola

          Looks good. Pam is adding a note regarding the after school Academy

          Web Page - Lynn Daly

Web page up and running.  All concerns will be routed to Lynn Daly.  Archived newsletter being added.  Archive meeting minutes being added.

          Newsletter - Marsha Atwood

Newsletter went out and was well received.  Next newsletter will be sent out in January.  All suggestions should be sent to Marsha Atwood.  Discussion was made about Officer Mitch providing safety information to add to the newsletter and maybe even to website.  Mrs. Everett will talk with Officer Mitch.

          After school programs - Marsha Atwood & Pam Tanzola

·        Need director to coordinate

·        Should be in place by January

·        Information will be in next newsletter

·        Bryson McLean agreed to conduct Yoga Classes

          Visitor Registration - Lynn Daly

Lynn Daly brought up discussion at the Board of Education Meeting.  She has emailed more information to members of the Board of Education.

          Board Business Member – suggestions

          Several options discussed.  Mrs. Everett asked that names and information be sent to her for review before December board meeting.

 

II.       New Business

          Mylunchmoney.com - Khristy Benson

·        Khristy presented research.  Allows parents to monitor money and what is being purchased.

·        Parents can add money online with a credit or debit card

·        Should cut down on work load for Nutrition Manager

·        Mrs. Everett will check on the possibility of being able to use it with the school computer system.  She will also discuss the program with the Food Nutrition Manager

          What have you heard?

·        Discussion was brought up regarding concerns with recess being eliminated.  Mrs. Everett made it clear that recess had only been eliminated on days that classes had PE.  This allows for the appropriate amount of instruction time in the classroom.

·        A+ Stars program – questions were presented about point system.  Mrs. Patterson said that point sheets were sent home at the beginning of the year and teachers explained points in class.

·        Teacher websites being up to date was another concern.  Mrs. Everett will talk with teachers regarding better communication as well as updating their websites.

 

III. Curriculum - Ms. Everett

·        Mrs. Everett addressed concerns regarding the S and S- grading and a copy of the Grading Procedure for Physical Education was handed out and is attached.

 

IV.  School Activities - Ms. Everett

·        Second Quarter writing begins today and continues through December 5th

·        K-5th grades will have assessments next week

·        Physical contact has been banned from recess.  Too many negative incidents taking place.

 

V.   PTO report - Martha Swiber

·        PTO report and schedule of events attached

 

VI.  Transportation - Ms. Everett

·        Four new digital cameras have been installed on buses

·        Discussion of what to do with old cameras

·        Best behaved bus will be presented with an award November 25th.  They will get a certificate to be posted in the hallway and treats.

 

VII. Facilities/Maintenance - Ms. Everett

·        Projectors are up and being complete this week and next week.
