PAC BOARD MEETING

Monday, February 23, 2009

 

Call meeting to order.     9:00 meeting called to order

In attendance:  Lisa Guarino, Khristy Benson, Martha Swiber, Kim Jones, Marsha Atwood, Lynn Daly, Bryson McLean, Ms. Everett, Ms. Patterson, Mac Holtz

Accept Minutes.       Minutes from the January meeting were accepted

 

 

I.   WOES PAC Projects 

          Newsletter - Marsha Atwood – as agreed at the last meeting, a March issue of the newsletter will be issued.  It should be complete in early March.

          Meet & Greet  – Khristy Benson – 1/27 recap – next one? – parents were even more receptive to the Meet & Greet.  We should do another March 18th at 2:45.

          WOA – status of director, instructors and timeline–Lynn Daly/Marsha Atwood – Marsha is still working on a director.  Marsha will speak at the PTO meeting tonight about the academy and to try to get a director and instructors.

          Bulletin Board – Kim Jones – Bulletin Board is good.

          Replacement Board Member – Lynn Daly – Board had no suggestions at this time.  Lynn asked that we think about possibilities for discussion at the next meeting.

          Board Business Member – suggestions/status – Ms Everett/Bryson McLean – Mac Holtz was present in the meeting to see what we actually do on the PAC board.  He is going to consider the position and let us know if he will be able to fill the position.

          Board of Education meeting update – Kim Jones – BOE Meeting was very interesting.  Kim spoke in regards to budget cuts.  Points given were that our classes remain small and that our assistants remain in place. 

 

II.       New Business

          What have you heard? – Concern has been expressed about a shortage of food at the Teddy Bear Breakfast and the parent was wondering if the child is charged full price if he/she has to have a substitution.  Mrs. Everett and Mrs. Patterson will check on this situation.

 

III.     Curriculum - Ms. Everett

          AR Test results access – Marsha Atwood – Marsha expressed that the email was a great way to get the information about the tests to the parents.  Marsha is going to put a note in the newsletter about the results being web-based so that parents can access them.

 

 

IV.         School Activities - Ms. Everett –

·        Kindergarten registration, February 26th, 1-7pm

·        Pre-K registration March 25th

·        1st grade teddy bear day in early March

·        Dr. Seuss Day, March 2nd

·        Rain Garden is being installed over Spring Break, week of 4/13 – Ms. Waterman and the 5th graders will work together to train the 4th graders and work together to plant in the garden

·        Retention letters have been distributed

·        Kindergarten tours - March 9th, 10th, and 11th, 8:30 – 10:30 – PTO and PAC will be greeting parents and children

·        Jump Rope for Heart-Wednesday, February 25th

·        Art Exhibition - blue ribbon winner from 5th grade, Regina Ryan – there will be a reception in Morehead on Thursday the 26th for the participants with art on display – art will be on display in the cafeteria also

·        March 6th, author Robin Crup will be at the school to visit and sign books for the kids – preorders due by March 3rd – she will meet with 3rd – 5th graders at 8:30 and K-2nd at 9:40

 

V.              PTO report - Martha Swiber

·        PTO Meeting tonight in Media Center

·        Chocolate sale ending.  Raised approximately $5,000.00.  Hats off to Lynne Meyer for a job well done.

·        Spring Fling is set for May 8th.  Kim Jones as agreed to be the coordinator this year.  $100.00 sponsorships will be sold for a spot on the t-shirt again this year.

·        Zap-a-snack goes on sale in April.  Delivery will be May 28th at Cape Carteret Baptist Church.  Good time for “Summer Restock”.

·        Final meeting will be in May but no date has been set yet.  Martha asked that we be thinking of officers for next year.

·        Discussion was also made about Subway and Harris Teeter having a rewards system for the schools.  Marsha is going to check on this and get us signed up if possible.

 

VI.         Transportation - Ms. Everett/Ms Patterson

·        All buses now have digital cameras

·        February’s bus of the month will be announced on Wednesday.

 

VII.     Facilities/Maintenance - Ms. Everett

·        Yard Works installed the garden area and statue outside of the cafeteria addition in memory of Mrs. Vickie Guthrie

·        Fourth grade building is currently having the windows replaced

·        Painting of the hallways is currently being done

 

VIII.     Policy - Ms. Everett – Central Office is in the process of preparing a handbook for students and parents.  This will reduce the amount of information that has to be in the handbooks for the individual schools across the county.

         

Questions/Comments/Concerns

  • The basketball teams using the gym are doing a great job in taking care of the facility.  All has gone well with the use of the facility.
  • David Rief has submitted the Sidewalk Grant information for the Town of Cape Carteret that we submitted the letter of support on behalf of - we should know in June if the sidewalk additions will be possible.
