PAC BOARD MEETING Call meeting to order at 8:52 am Members in attendance: Ms. Everett, Marsha Atwood, Wendi Andrews, Khristy Benson, Kim Jones, Ms. Patterson and Bryson McLean I. WOES PAC Projects a. Updates · Secretary-Wendi · Newsletter-Bryson: Next newsletter will be published mid January · Bulletin Board-Wendi: need to update · Web Page-Martha: o Marsha’s email address had been added · Meet & Greet-Khristy: January 22 at 2:45 · Glossary of Terms: Need a coordinator b. PAC presence: · Drop off line rotation on Thursdays at 7:30 am going well, Khristy to email a schedule around so everyone can sign up · Improve upon the description of PAC – Wendi: will bring information to the next meeting · PTO events: wear pink shirts and try to attend · Speaker: can we sponsor someone to come in and speak on a topic parents are interested in? · Business sponsored events – Mac working on II. New Topics a. H1N1 Booster: Booster vaccinations will be administered on January 6, 2010 between 8:30am and 12:00pm; Trish will be sending a letter home to those affected; first round of shots went smoothly, expect these to be the same b. Magens Bay/Crystal Shores bus incident: bus broke down and children were allowed to leave bus and have parents/other parents take them home; Policy was not followed; Ms. Patterson has addressed the issue with the driver and has reviewed policy with other drivers; Policy: driver calls school, school calls maintenance, maintenance responds within a short time (trucks posted throughout the county); can’t call parents because the child would be home before all phone information could be retrieved; students can only be released to their parent or to a pre-designated person (written note sent to school that morning) by the parent c. Academy: concerns about attendance records; are children being accounted for?; need to take attendance at the beginning of each class and find out where missing children are; parents need to send a note in to the child’s teacher if the child is not attending academy that day d. Drop off: children are being let out at the flag pole and entrance of the school, NOT SAFE!, children should be driven to the front of the school and vehicle should be within the hash mark area before a child exits the car; drivers should be aware of children and staff as they are driving up to the hash mark area and not pull over too close e. Speeding: speed limits should be followed by parents in front of school II. Curriculum - Ms. Everett a. Dare: starting January 17 for 5th Grade with Officer Jeff b. Universal assessments: throughout month of January; there will be an assessor, not teachers performing assessments c. Collaborative planning will take place in January d. 6th Grade came from Broad Creek and met with teachers to discuss transitioning; will change how Broad Creek visit goes III. School Activities - Ms. Everett IV. PTO report – Kim Jones a. Upcoming events · Clean-up day · No PTO night scheduled in January · Requesting PTO night at Mac Daddy’s in February b. Sally Foster: made approx. $2,500 c. Santa’s workshop: made approx. $3,000 and gave away $410 in certificates d. Quiznos and Java Post fund raiser went well e. Santa’s breakfast went well V. Transportation - Ms. Everett · Best Behaved Bus will begin again in January VII. Facilities/Maintenance - Ms. Everett · Request has been submitted to maintenance for additional lighting; need a light in the new parking area behind buses; will be in budget for next year · Leaks: still having problems with water leaking in around vents when it rains and the wind blows; ongoing problem; have requested assistance from Dr. Novey; leaks are in the Primary building, Cafeteria and 4th Grade hall; concern about possibility that mold could begin to grow in wet areas · HVAC was added to the technology building/preschool building VII. Policy - Ms. Everett · Bullying: Ms. Patterson is on the county committee concerning bullying; county is revising definition for bullying and working on a new policy concerning bullying IX. Meeting Schedule: · The next meeting is January 21 at 8:45 am
