Dr. James C. Harvell

Sport Medicine/Team Manager: 1973

Right arm of the coaching staff during his four years at WC as equipment manager and athletic trainer for all sports.
Upon leaving WCHS, he attended Ohio State University and was Athletic Trainer for the Ohio State Buckeyes and the famed “Woody Hayes” for four years.
Now an Orthopaedic surgeon at Pitt Memorial Hospital.
He has been published 13 times in professional books and journals.

1997 – Signed with Baltimore Orioles and was on South Atlantic League Championship team.Presently Head Varsity Baseball Coach at WCHS. His teams are three time conference champions and have made it to the 3rd round of the state playoffs three consecutive years.

David Yancy

Basketball: 1985

Was a three year starter on the WCHS Varsity basketball team and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Basketball accomplishments include: being a co-captain as a junior and senior, a two time all-conference selection, conference
player of the year, a member of the eastern regional all-tournament team as a junior, most valuable player of the eastern regional as a senior, and an all-east selection as a senior. He culminated his high school career as a leader on the 1985 3-A state championship team, coached by Billy Widgeon. After graduating from West in 1985, David continued playing basketball at Guilford College in Greensboro. While at Guilford, he was a four year starter, three year team captain and a
member of the all-rookie team. His team made the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Tournament in Kansas City in 1989. David currently resides in Durham, N.C. with his wife, Sheila and three children, Jalen, Jordan, and Gee.  He works in theRaleigh school system mentoring at risk youth.
