The Testing & Accountability staff members promote continuous improvement and accountability along with providing support to the system and individual schools through analysis of assessment results and interpretation of a variety of school performance data. Accurate data and statistically appropriate reports are provided to instructional leaders to sustain efforts to improve student achievement.
The Testing & Accountability Department ensures that State Board of Education policies and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) guidelines related to the North Carolina READY program and the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act are followed before, during, and after testing. During and subsequent to the assessment process, we ensure the integrity of the data collection process so that the most accurate and complete information is used to measure student improvement and to report results.
Student assessment results play an increasingly important role in North Carolina's READY program and in the U.S. Department of Education NCLB initiative. Assessment results are one component in the promotion/retention decisions in grades 3-8, and also as a component in the High School Exit Standards.
