Internet Safety and
Technology Responsible Use (7/1/02)
The
Internet is a global information and communication network that
provides a tremendous opportunity to bring previously unimaginable
education and information opportunities to our students. Through
the Internet, students can access up-to-date, highly relevant
information that enhances their learning. Students also have the
opportunity to communicate with other people throughout the world.
By using the Internet for enriching educational activities,
students can prepare for success in life and work in the 21st
Century.
Individuals
may use the Internet to engage in actions that are ethical, legal
and responsible.
The Internet is, however, a public space. As is true with
all public spaces, there is a potential that individuals may come
into contact with potentially harmful or inappropriate material or
people. Therefore use of the Internet necessarily raises concerns
about safety and security.
Besides just filtering content, schools that provide
Internet access have an obligation to help individuals learn to
use the Internet in a safe and responsible manner.
The
following Internet Safety and Technology Responsible Use Policy
and Regulations address the strategies the
Carteret County Public School System utilizes to create an
environment that supports the safe and responsible use of
technology and the Internet by students and school system
employees. The Student Internet Safety
and Technology Responsible Use Agreement addresses related
student issues. Through this policy the system seeks to:
- Establish
an appropriate environment that supports the safe and
responsible use of technology and the Internet by students and
school system employees.
- Impart
to students and school system employees the knowledge, skills,
and motivation to use technology and the Internet in a safe
and responsible manner regardless of where or how they have
access.
