What could be
more compelling than working with information in the Digital Age? Carteret
County Public School System recognizes the power and potential of
information and technology to support, enhance, extend, and transform teaching and
learning in the twenty-first century. We blend our resources--rich
media centers, robust networks, vast technology holdings, and competent
professionals--to open windows to the world for the benefit of student
learning.
Computers
and digital technology are vital to education, work, and
recreation today. Technology resources add value to every content
area and grade level in The North Carolina Standard Course of
Study. Carteret County public school students rank among the top
in the state when it comes to passing the N. C. Computer Skills
Competency Test.
Our
school system remains proactive in providing technology assets for
students and staff. Currently, we have a student to instructional
computer ratio of 1:2.5. All computers are networked, have
Internet access and are equipped with software. Students and staff
have data folders that reside on school servers. Survey results
show on average our students utilized computers in school more
than 66,915 times each week. Additional computers are used by
teachers, staff and administrators.
Technical
support personnel help maintain and upgrade inventory.
Instructional personnel help integrate technology into
curriculum. Staff
members use technology for administrative, operational, and
instructional purposes. Students
use technology to obtain information, produce and present
artifacts of learning, solve problems, communicate, and assess
their educational progress.
