Enhancing
Education Through Technology:
Title II, Part D of
the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act ("No Child
Left Behind") supports the use of technology to positively
impact academic achievement. For a comprehensive review of
how, check out Technology
Briefs for NCLB Planners.
Carteret County
Public School System proposes to use the EETT federal funds to
target and improve student subgroup achievement levels in core
subject areas and computer competencies.
The administration and staff of the nine participating Title
1 schools will have the discretion to focus resources on challenged
subgroups of students that may include minorities, economically
disadvantaged, special needs, and Level IV’s.
EETT funds will be used to provide professional development
opportunities for teachers of the chosen subgroups.
The funds may be used to cover substitutes, stipends,
facilitators, and consultants.
Professional development for participating K-8 teachers will
be in any combination of the following focus areas:
 |
Enhancing
SuccessMaker (CCC) through ExploreWare courses and the
isolation of strands to complement curriculum
|
 |
Building and
maintaining classwebs (with Front Page) that list current
assignments, display student work, link to valuable resources
for learning, and provide opportunities for asynchronous
interaction.
|
 |
Developing
and implementing technology- and media-rich lessons that
afford teachers and students opportunities to build 21st
century, digital literacy skills.
|
|
As part of the program,
the school system will track the number of participating teachers and
students and will chronicle their work on a website devoted to Carteret
County Public School System’s EETT initiative.
The objectives (stated in measurable terms to determine student and/or staff gains and improved
quality of a local program) are as follows:
- School/class
websites and e-mail will increase school-to-home, home-to-school
contact and interaction as relates to targeted subgroups.
- The
number of concepts mastered by targeted students on Integrated
Learning Systems (in this case, SuccessMaker) will increase in
relationship to time spent on program.
- The
collection of 21st century skills-related artifacts
(websites, presentations, spreadsheets, graphics, collaborations,
etc.) will increase from students and teachers who participate in
technology- and media-rich lessons.
- Overall
scores that measure digital literacy (such as the fifth grade
computer skills practice test) will continue to rise.
- Academic
growth for targeted subgroups in reading, writing and/or math will
increase in measures determined by school and school system
employees to be reasonable, yet challenging, for each particular
subgroup.
