Digital Accomplishments, 01-02: 
To say last year was a busy school year in terms of educational technology may be an understatement.  Below is a catalog of some of the forward progress we made:

  • Installed Newport Middle School
  • Completed the fifth and final year of Learning Environments for the New Century with 36 new participants
  • Unveiled a new district web site on first day of school
  • Brought new websites to every school via the Web Keepers initiative
  • Set up web server…migrated from clis.com to www.carteretcountyschools.org  (enabled remote access)
  • Secured and enabled NovaNet (Pearson Educational Technologies) at three High Schools
  • Secured and enabled Curriculum Pathways (SAS) for three HS’s
  • Recovered from a lightning strike to a switch at Central Office
  • Deployed Bess filter district-wide
  • Deployed Desktop Security district wide
  • Expedited protection/recovery program and procedures after 9/11
  • Upgraded six school networks with new servers and switches
  • Completed Year 2 of hardware replacement cycle
  • Separated our department into 4 distinct groups:  Media Coordinators, Instructional Technology Facilitators, Web Keepers and Tech Support
  • Responded to 6000 work orders from schools; closed 92% on monthly basis
