Three years ago the County Commissioners
hired MGT to conduct a performance audit of the school system.
Recommendation 15 of that audit states: Establish a process to
identify the level of computer utilization for each school and
develop a process to undertake an annual computer utilization
assessment as a component of the development of the Capital
Budget.
Here are some key points about this survey:
- The survey is designed to represent
student usage of computers in classrooms, media centers and
general academic labs in a given two-week period.
- School personnel are responsible for
picking survey weeks and conducting the survey.
- Schools self-report the data. School
personnel have access to school data at all times
Based on a survey return rate of 46%,
our students utilize computers in
school more than 37,885 times each week. Here are the
two-week '04-'05 survey results for classroom use,
media
center use and academic
lab use. In a nutshell, here are
three generalizations I make from
the district data.
