Leaders at the district
and school levels in Carteret County continue to support the
need to upgrade and expand the availability of technological
resources for students and teachers.
During the 2009-10 school year,
over 250 computers and 4 new servers were purchased with local
funds provided by our county government.
These items replaced equipment that
could no longer support 21st century teaching and
learning.
In many cases, laptop computers
were purchased to increase the number of mobile labs in the
schools.
This concept allows teachers to
save valuable class time that is typically lost during the
transition when students move from classrooms to computer labs.
State and federal
funds have been used to support additional programs such as Read
180 which is a research-based reading intervention program.
In addition, software subscriptions
such as OdysseyWare, provide remediation and credit recovery for
struggling students as well as increased learning opportunities
for advanced students who are unable to enroll in a course that
is not offered at their school.
ClassScape
is used to help teachers plan their instruction based on online
student assessment results.
Carteret County will
continue to use local, state, and federal funds to create 21st
century learning environments at all schools.
Classrooms that are equipped with
interactive white boards, student response systems, data
projectors, wireless slates, and document cameras will continue
to improve the instructional process while meeting the diverse
needs of all students.
