Brief Description: Students
will utilize technology to access, analyze, interpret and
communicate information about Earth Day.

Standard Course of Study
Goals and Objectives:
Technology:
1.4 Recognize how electronic databases are used in the community.
2.11 Use telecommunications to locate community information as a
group/class project.
3.2 Locate and use information in electronic databases.
3.4 Evaluate the usefulness of information obtained using
telecommunication technologies.
Science:
1.02 Observe how environmental conditions can determine how well
plants grow and survive in a particular environment.
Social Studies:

Information Skills:
1.09 Recognize that ideas are produced in a variety of formats

English/LA:

The learner will demonstrate knowledge and skills in the use of the
computer. The learner will access, analyze, interpret, synthesize,
apply, and communicate information.
Materials/Resources Needed:
Pre Activities:
- Class
discusses how databases are used in the community and how the
Internet is the largest database.
- Learn steps for accessing
Internet
- Learn steps for accessing
particular Search Engines
- Learn basic operational terms and
cues.
- Students
use a rubric to evaluate information found via
telecommunications for content and usefulness.
Activities:
- Access Earth Day Sites
- Read and evaluate information
Closure:
Knowledge gained about Earth Day will be used as a springboard to a
variety of Science, S.S. and ELA projects to include posters,
discussions, writings, and home activities.
Assessment: Students are
assessed in reading comprehension, and basic knowledge gained about
science and social studies with respect to Earth Day.
