Brief Description: Students will use previously collected data to create a graph using “The Graph Club.”
Approximate time required: 30 minutes
Standard Course of Study Goals and Objectives
Math
4.1 Collect, sort, organize, and display information in charts, graphs, and tables with correct labeling.
4.2 Summarize and interpret information in charts, graphs, and tables.
Technology
1.2 Recognize an individuals right of ownership to computer-generated work.
2.6 Use a graphing program to enter data and graph the results.
3.1 Collect, sort, and organize information to display as a graph or chart.
English Language Arts
2.8 Interpret information from diagrams, charts, and maps.
4.9 Use media and technology to enhance the presentation of information to an
audience for a specific purpose.
Teacher's Lesson Goals/Objective: The students will collect data from classmates showing what they would do to protect and save the earth. The students will then use the “Graph Club” to enter their data and graph the results.
Materials/Resources Needed:
- Classroom computers,
- TV monitor
- ”Graph Club” software,
- previously collected data
(plant.
Pre Activities:
- Students will read stories and articles about protecting the
Earth.
- Students will collect the data
for their computer generated graph. (Possible choices
are: plant trees, protect animals and their
habitats, fight water pollution, plant
flowers)
- Students use symbols for
each and provided a key to show what the symbols
represent.
Activities:
- Teacher will discuss
individual's right of ownership of computer-generated work
before they go to the computer to create their
graph.
- The teacher will model graphing on the computer using “Graph Club.”
- The students will use data collected to create a graph in “Graph Club.”
- The teacher will monitor as students use software giving assistance as needed.
- Students will print graphs and share results.
Closure:
As a class, students will summarize and interpret information.
Students are to find the least and most favorite choices by looking at the graph.
Assessment:
1. Was data recorded correctly on the graph?
2. Was data interpreted correctly and shared with peers?
