Students will be introduced to the * 5 a Day* Dole
program to reinforce facts learned about nutrition.

Study Goals and Objectives
Healthful Living
5.1 Conclude that foods provide nutrients, which
maintain and promote health.
5.2 Identify the serving sizes and number of daily
servings needed from each food group of the Food Guide
Pyramid.
Technology
1.5 Identify how telecommunications has changed the
ways people work and play,
3.0 The learner will use a variety of telecommunications
to access, analyze, interpret, synthesize, apply, and
communicate information.
English Language Arts
2.2 Use text for a variety of functions, including
literary, informational, and practical.
2.6 Recall facts and details from text.
3.3 Explain and describe new concepts and information in
own words.
4.4 Use oral communication to identify, organize, and
analyze information.
Teacher's Lesson
Goals/Objective: The students will learn more about
the nutritional value of fruits and vegetables. They
will learn names of fruits and vegetables including
facts about them. Students will be able to tell the
number of servings of fruits and vegetables they need
daily.
Materials/Resources
Needed:
- Classroom computers,
- * 5 a Day *software.
Pre Activities:
1. Students learned about nutrition and the food
pyramid in science.
2. Students drew their own food pyramids.
3. Students read the Weekly Reader Celebrate National
Nutrition Month .
Activities:
1. The teacher will model using some of the activities
on the * 5 a Day * program.
2. The students will visit and use some the different
activities in the *5 a Day * program.
3. The teacher will monitor as students use software
giving assistance as needed.
Closure: Students
will discuss and answer the questions on their question
sheet.
Assessment:
1. Did students follow directions and do the activities
correctly? (observation)
2. Did students learn information they didn't know about
nutrition before?
