Teacher's Lesson Goals/Objectives:
Student will use the computers in the lab to learn to use the tools to paint, erase and re-vert their frog pictures for the booklet cover.  They will use the paint can to add background color.  Students will experiment to find the color that is most colorful.

Materials/Resources Needed:
Factual books about frogs should be read and enjoyed by the children before creating their booklet.  Students will include facts which they believe are the most exciting and important to them. Sample book covers.

Pre Activities:
Students should have prior experience with creating pictures of their choice using ClarisWorks.  They should have also read and listened to a variety of factual books about frogs.

Activities:

  1. Teacher reviews the tools of ClarisWorks to design a student created picture by questioning the students. Ex.  Where do we place the mouse when we want to begin our painting?
  2. Students may need to be reminded to choose background color by clicking on the paint can and the color of their choice.
  3. Students will then use the tools which will be needed to design their frog book cover.  Hints will be given by the teacher and assistant to help the student remember to use lots of color and to add appropriate details in their drawings (frog, rocks, water, insects, etc.).
  4. Students print their final product

Assessment:
Students will share their book covers with their classmates after returning to the classroom.  Rubric may be used to make sure all elements the teacher required are on the book cover.  Oral questioning by teachers and students may be used as assessment.
