Brief Description: To incorporate the book COUNTING CROCODILES with a KIDSPIRATION counting activity.
Approximate time required: Small group activity --20 minutes
Standard Course of Study Goals and Objectives:
Technology
2.1 - Locate and use letters, numbers, and special keys on a keyboard.

Place the curser at a specific location
Math
1.01 models numbers in a variety of ways
1.02 read, write and count using whole numbers
1.03 use 1-1 correspondence to identify how many (0-10)
1.04 recognizing numerals and matching the numeral to sets
Teacher's Lesson Goals/Objectives:
The students will be able to recognize numerals and move the correct number of objects to a given number and create the given set
Materials/Resources Needed:
- Book: COUNTING CROCODILES
- Computer
- Kidspiration software
- Kidspiration
Counting Crocodiles Activity (Note turn the
sound off. The crocodile will be substituted for the
alligator).
- TV for group viewing
Pre Activities: Students will draw a number card and count out the right number of objects for that numeral
.
Activities:
- Read the book, COUNTING CROCODILES
- Model and introduce KIDSPIRATION
- On the computer each student will be given a numeral and
they will then select THAT number of
crocodiles to
create THAT specific set.
- Students will type their name in a box before teacher prints hard copy to send
home.
Closure: Review the numerals
Each child will have the opportunity to do the KIDSPIRATION activity
Assessment:
- Students will complete 5 out of 6 given numerals for
mastery on the Kidspiration County Crocodiles
Activity.
- Students names are checked
to see if they type in their name correctly. (Spell the
name correctly, and use the shift key to make their first
letter upper case).
