Computer/Technology Skills
Goal 1: The learner will understand
important issues of a technology based society and will
exhibit ethical behavior in the use of computer and other
technologies
Objective 1.1:
Identify the computer as a machine that helps people work and
play.
Objective 1.2:
Identify the physical components of the computer system
Objective 1.3:
Demonstrate respect for the work of others
Objective 1.4:
Demonstrate correct care and use of computers.
Goal 2: The learner will demonstrate
knowledge and skills in the use of computer and other
technologies
Objective 2.1:
Locate and use letters, numbers, and special keys on a
keyboard.
Objective 2.2:
Place the cursor at a specified location.
Approximate Time Required:
30 minutes
Teacher's Lesson Goals/Objectives:
The student will manipulate the mouse to draw a picture on a
computer program such as Kid Works or ClarisWorks for Kids.
Then, using the keyboard, the student will type a word to
label the picture and type his/her name.
Materials/Resources Needed:
- picture word list
- computer, keyboard, mouse
- desktop publishing software (ClarisWorks for Kids or Kid
Works)
- printer
- paper
Pre Activities:
- Class identifies computers as a machine that will help
them do their work more efficiently.
- Students discuss respect for other's work and the care
of and use of computers.
- Students will enter the Kid Works or Claris Works for
Kids program.
- Demonstrate how to use the Kid Works or Claris Works for
Kids programs to complete the assignment.
- Demonstrate how to draw a picture and type accompanying
word(s).
Activities:
- The student will identify the physical computer
components they will use today.
- Students are to demonstrate respect for other's work
- The student will refer to a posted picture/word list and
pick an area to copy.
- Using the pencil/mouse the student will draw a picture.
- Clicking on the typewriter will allow the student to
type a word to label the picture.
- The student's name and date will also be added.
Assessment:
Self evaluation of completed computer drawing/typing.
Does picture match the teacher sample and was the word typed
correctly?
Supplemental Resources:
This activity integrates reading and writing.
It can also be integrated into any topic studied, such as,
drawing seasonal or holiday pictures.
