The Computer Helps us Work and
Play.

Brief Description: The
students will use a thinking map, the Double Bubble to compare and
contrast the use of a computer for work and for play.
Approximate Time Required: 30
minutes
Curriculum Areas NC Standard Course of Study:
Computer/Technology Skills
1.1 Identify the computer as a machine that helps people work and
play.
2.3 Identify items by different attributes using manipulatives
and/or software.
Teacher's
Lesson Goals/Objectives:
The student will identify the computer as a machine that helps
people work and play.
Materials/Resources Needed:
Thinking Map design the Double Bubble
chart paper or white board and markers
Pre Activities: Activate
student's prior knowledge by discussing how they have used a
computer or seen others use a computer.
Activity: Students will name
how a computer is used for work and name how a computer is used for
play. The student responses will be recorded in the outside
bubbles of the thinking map. The inside bubbles of the
thinking map will record how working and playing on a computer is
similar.
Independent Practice:
During center time, students will work on the computer to complete
assigned projects and practice playing games.
Closure: A computer is used
for work and for play by everyone.
Some activities on a computer are considered for work only. Some
activities are for play only. Some activities are considered
for work and play, as shown on the completed thinking map, the
double bubble.
Assessment:
Students will be asked individually to name 1 way a computer is used
for work and 1 way a computer is used for play.
Observation:
This lesson has been observed by a teacher.
