Subjects included in this Lesson Plan: English Language Arts and Technology

Brief Description:   Students will be using BES Web site to locate the teacher’s web page and how to use a link on bats.

Approximate time required: 30 minutes

Standard Course of Study Goals and Objectives 
English Language Arts
2.03 Read a variety of texts
2.04 Identify and interpret elements of fictions and nonfiction and support by referring the text 
3.05 Integrate information from two or more sources to expand understanding of text.
Technology
2.1 Use technology tools to collect, analyze and display data.
2.10 Use search strategies to locate information.

Teacher's Lesson Goals/Objectives: The student will be able to access the teacher web site at home and use the link to gather information to discuss with parents on the different pair reading (fiction and nonfiction) done in class.

Materials/Resources Needed:

Pre Activities: 

  1. Discuss what is meant by Pair Fiction and Nonfiction
  2. Introduce the First Lesson: 
    • Fiction: Story Out of the Light, into the Night 
    • Nonfiction Story: The Truth About Bats

Activities: 

  1. Log On 
  2. Click on Internet Explore Icon
  3. Scroll down BES Web Page
  4. Locate Teacher Web Site
  5. Click in box 
  6. Type p (Parker)
  7. Click Go
  8. Click on LINK
  9. Click on Bat Link
  10. Click on the different icons found in the web site (Discussion)
  11. File Close
  12. Log Off

Closure: 
Ask students to explain the different ways they could use the link to gather information at home and for other subject areas.

Assessment
Each student will be given the address to BES web site.
