Internet Research and Slideshow Project

Approximate Time Required:
This project takes approximately two weeks to complete at school and home.
Students will spend six 45 minute sessions using the Internet for research and creating a ClarisWorks Slideshow.
 

Curriculum Areas NC Standard Course of Study:

ELA OBJECTIVES

  • Writes an expository paper using 3 reference sources.
  • Researches through a variety of sources.
  • Takes notes.
  • Outlines.
  • Paraphrases.
  • Creates a bibliography in correct form.
  • Make oral and written presentations using visual aids with an awareness of purpose and audience.


SOCIAL STUDIES OBJECTIVES

3.1  Describe the absolute and relative location of the state and places within the state,
3.2  Locate in absolute and relative terms major landforms, bodies of water, and natural resources in North Carolina.

MATH OBJECTIVES

2.7  Measure distance in miles and kilometers using conversion of inches and centimeters on a map scale.

COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY OBJECTIVES

1.4  Recognize the correct use of copyrighted materials in multimedia products.
2.1  Use technology tools used to collect, analyze, and display data.
2.10  Use search strategies to locate information electronically.
3.1  Create, format, save, and print a word processed document.
3.4  Create a multimedia project and cite sources of copyrighted material.

Computer with Slideshow program
Internet Access

Various Art Media to Create Visuals for Projects

Teacher's Lesson Goals/Objectives
Research information using various resources including the Internet to create a written report on an NC landmark to be used as the basis for a Slideshow presentation.
 

Activities

  • Students will select a landmark topic, use the project rubric as a guide to take notes, and research the Internet or library for a total of three 45 minute class periods.
  • Students will continue research, finish report, and create project visual at home.  Bibliography will be completed together at school.
  • Students will use information in report to create Slideshow computer presentation in additional three 45 minute periods.
  • Students will present Slideshow to classmates on Smart Board.

FORMAT FOR LANDMARK REPORT

Choose one of the interesting landmarks of North Carolina.  Research the landmark chosen.  Find out as many facts as you can about the landmark.  Read at least 3 sources to gather your information.  We will be working on the report at school and at home.
 
 
 
The following items must be addressed in your report:  POINTS
1. Name of landmark  10
2. Date of when and how established  10
3. History from establishment to present  40
4. Include special people and or events associated with the landmark  20
5. Major city it is located near 10
6. Document 3 sources at the end of the report  10

In addition to your written report, you must submit a visual project about your landmark.  Below are some ideas.  Be creative and come up with your own ideas if you like.
