What's the Clue?

Subjects included in this Lesson Plan: Reading and Technology
Brief Description: The practice of using context clues from context, using the
Internet for resource practice. We will discuss the correct use of copyrighted materials and practice proper keyboarding techniques for upper and lower case letters.
Approximate time required: Three/ 45 minute periods
Standard Course of Study Goals and Objectives : Technology:
1.4 Recognize the correct use of
copyrighted materials in multimedia products.
2.2 Practice proper keyboarding techniques for upper and lower case
letters.
English/Language Arts:
1.03 Identify key words
and discover their meanings and relationships through a variety of
strategies.
Teacher's Lesson Goals/Objectives: The student will practice finding the meaning of unknown vocabulary, using context clues, with the resource of internet technology. In addition, students will review proper keyboarding techniques and be instructed on the laws concerning copyrighted materials.
Materials/Resources Needed:

Pre Activities:

Give an example of an unknown word in a sentence or a group of sentences.

Model how to find clues surrounding the word which gives the meaning to the unknown word.

Figure out the meaning of the word together.

Do several together.
Independent: :

Using pencil and paper, students do 2-3 examples on their own.

Check for correct written responses. This is the preparation for what they will be doing once they get into the practice on the computer.

Before the students begin their computer practice, the teacher will then:

show students that this is the same pre-activity they had just done except that now these examples will be done from the computer.
Closure: Review steps in using context clues in text as well as the importance of obeying copyrighted laws and review of proper keyboarding strategies.
