TEACHER WEBSITE INTRODUCTION
Amy Barnes
Beaufort Elementary School
April 27, 2003

SUBJECTS INCLUDED IN THIS LESSON PLAN: Technology, and English/Language Arts

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:  This is an introductory lesson designed to teach the children how to access my teacher web page and type an email to me.

APPROXIMATE TIME REQUIRED: 30-40 MINUTES

STANDARD COURSE OF STUDY GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

TECHNOLOGY:
2.9 – Use e-mail as a means of communication.
2.10 – Use search strategies to locate information electronically.

ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS:

4.10 – Use technology as a tool to gather, organize, and present information.

TEACHER’S LESSON GOALS/OBJECTIVES:

The student will use the Internet to access my teacher web page and add it to the favorites menu on the computer at school. After doing this at school, they should be able to do it on their own computer at home.

MATERIALS/RESOURCES NEEDED:

ACTIVITIES:

Use this web site to link to my teacher web page.  They will view my web page and create an email message and send it to me.

GUIDED PRACTICE:

  1. Guide the children to the Website’s home page.

  2. Have them locate the Teacher Website drop down menu and select a teacher on the school's website.  Have them scroll down until they find “Barnes”.  Then instruct them to click on “GO.”

  3. When they have my home page on their screen, I will show them how to add this website to the favorites menu in the tool bar.  This way the website will be readily available for them on their computer in the computer lab. This activity will also demonstrate how they can add my web site to their favorites menu on their home computer.

  4. Then view each of my icons (Announcements, Homework, Links, FAQ, and Calendar).

  5. After viewing the web site, show students where they can click on E-Mail to send me a message. Handout the email worksheet and discuss the parts of the email and how to use it (how email addresses are setup (username@domainname), from, to, subject, message, and how to send) (Students will have to do this from their Internet computer at home, county library, friend or family member's computer). .

INDEPENDENT PRACTICE:   Assist any students who need help. Have them click on the links icon and then click on the teacher's website. They may browse the school’s website.

CLOSURE: Explain to students that they are able to access this website at home as well as at school.  It is a valuable tool in assisting communication between teachers, parents, and students.  Encourage them to share this website with their parents if they have Internet access at home.

ASSESSMENT: (use check list for the following)

  1. Students successfully filled out the email worksheet.

  2. Each child will have successfully sent me an email from home, county library, neighbor or family member's computer.

  3. Students show parents how to pull up the teacher's web site and show them how to email their teacher.  Parents email the teacher that they have viewed the web site.
