Investigating technological impacts on N.C.
Student Handout

1. We just finished discussing impacts of technology on the state of North Carolina.  You should choose 1 or 2 areas which have been affected by technology.  You will need to log on to the internet and search for information regarding your topic.

Here are some sites that may assist you during your search:
http://www.ajkids.com/  (Students will type in a question concerning North Carolina and technological influences)
http://www.pti.com/  (Teacher will need to help/walk through site/ get into North Carolina/ than look for information)
http://www2.ncsu.edu/
http://www.state.nc.us/
http://statelibrary.dcr.state.nc.us/nc/cover.htm/  (This is an excellent site.  It is a state encyclopedia)
 http://www.Britannica.com/
 http://www.ncgov.com/asp/basic/citizen.asp
 http://www.dogpile.com

You need to ask this question:
How has technology impacted __________ in North Carolina?

2. Select at least three facts for each sub topic (farming, schools, communication). You may write them down or print them out.

3. Exit Netscape, and enter ClarisWorks/AppleWorks.  Open a new word processing document.  Before you ever begin typing, select the sub menu File, choose Save As, type Computer #3 and your initials.  Choose the icon which allows you to begin typing in the center of the page.  Select Times New Roman font, size 18, style Bold.  In the center of your page type: Technological impacts on Farming, Schools, and Communication in North Carolina.  Your blank will be filled with your topic.  Press return.  Remember as you are typing periodically take a moment to save what you have.

4.  Choose the icon which allows you to align your paper at the left (hint it is the icon beside the center alignment). Go to Menu board select the sub menu for Format, select paragraph, go to line spacing, and type 2.  Change the font size to 14, change the style to plain text, and you are ready to type your report.

5. After you have composed a five paragraph report (introductory paragraph, farming, schools, communication, and a closing paragraph), you need to use the spell check and grammar check.

6. When this is completed, save your work.

7. After you have saved, print one copy and submit another to the hand in folder.

8. Close out and exit ClarisWorks/AppleWorks.
