Brief Description:
The children will engage in an interactive writing activity based on the story Fortunately, by Remy Charlip. The product will be published as a slide show presentation.
Approximate time required: 30 minutes

knowledge and experiences to a new text.

experiences with texts.

4.05 Write and /or participate in writing by using an author’s model of language and extending the model.

Pre Activities:
Familiarize students with the story Fortunately, by Remy Charlip
Activities:
1. Read the story as a class activity.
2.Brainstorm ideas to use the same format, but compose a new story that is original to the class.
3. Write the new story using the interactive method of composition.
4. Publish the story in a slide show presentation using the
AppleWorks application.
5. Print and copy the product as a new book for each child to illustrate and
take home to read and share with parents.
Closure:
Review the slide show presentation as a class.
Assessment:
This activity will be assessed by reviewing the final product. We will have created a slide show presentation and each student will receive a printed copy to assemble into individual books that they can keep.
