Brief Description:
Students will work together to
create a ClarisWorks Slide Show on
"Five Great Reasons to Live on the NC Coast". They
will incorporate pictures from various sources into their slides.
They will also use word processing and keyboarding skills to
write a brief explanation of their reason. After
the class presentation, students will create
individual flap books choosing five reasons to
live on the NC Coast.

Color Printer
ClarisWorks software
Scanner
Digital Camera
Clip Art
Internet access (and permission
slips)
Statement of Objective:
We are going to make a slide show
using ClarisWorks on "Five Great Reasons to Live on the NC
Coast". We have already made a web of reasons. Each
group will get a slide in the show. One group will do a
title slide and the other groups will choose one reason to live on
the coast. You will use pictures that you create on
the computer, scanned pictures, pictures downloaded from the
Internet, our digital camera, or Clip Art.
Pre Activities:
Discuss/Review reasons to live on
the coast of North Carolina. Discuss slide shows. Review
physical components of the computer, fundamental computer
terms, and basic word processing terms.
Discuss sources of information, including, but not limited to:
the Internet, brochures, and magazines. Also, discuss how to
scan pictures to use in a ClarisWorks slide show.
Using ClarisWorks, model for
students creating and running a slide show.
Demonstrate bringing in pictures from Clip Art or other saved
images. Discuss ownership of computer created work.
Activities:
Students work in small groups (with
teacher guidance) to produce a slide in a class multimedia slide
show using ClarisWorks. They may use the Internet, Clip Art,
or scanned pictures as some of their resources. They will type
a sentence (or more) about their topic.

Compile slides to make a slide show.
Share with other first grade classes.
Print-out and make copies to send home to share with
parents.
Follow-up activity:
Students will create a flap book of five reasons to live on the
coast of NC.
Assessment: Observation and
finished slide show graded by rubric. Student/individual flap-
book.
