Brief Description:
Using a tree map to classify the elements of fiction books, the students create a multimedia book report

Stand Course of Study Goals and Objectives:
1.2 Recognize the need for protection of software and hardware from computer viruses and vandalism.
2.3 Use keyboarding skills to improve speed and accuracy.
2.4 Use a word processing application to create and format a document.
3.5 Create modify a multimedia presentation citing sources of copyrighted materials. 

Teacher's Lesson Goals and Objectives: 
The student will learn the elements of fiction books, then create and present a multimedia presentation to the class.

Fiction A/R books

Pre Activities:

  1. Read fiction A/R book
  2. Complete a flow map with elements of fiction: theme, setting, characters, plot, climax 
Independent Practice:
  1. Stress the importance of not vandalizing other students HyperStudio work and introducing viruses when using disks brought from home.
  2. Students create a story board of their project before they go to the computer. 
  3. Students us a model book report on their computer student folder plus a step-by-step HyperStudio project outline. (I created a book report from a book that the whole class had read (Sign of the Beaver) using the project outline. NOTE: I had this report on each of the student folders in my class so that they could see an example and even use the same report by erasing my work and putting theirs in place of mine.
