Teacher's Lesson
Goals/Objectives:
Students will be aware of the holocaust and the persecution of specific ethnic groups in Europe during World War II. We will have read pages 709 through 711, in Prentice Hall Literature Timeless Voices, Timeless Themes Silver Level. This gives the basic background information for reading the drama.
Materials/Resources Needed:

- Computer/printer
- Internet access

Activities:

Teacher
reviews Internet search strategies before students go
on-line.

Students will go on-line to do research on concentration camps during WWII.

The students must first look at the web sites to evaluate whether the sites are reliable sources.

Then the students will have to find information on the location of the camps, the ethnic background of the people interred in the camps, and how many people died.

The students will have to draw a map of Europe with the locations of at least four of the following camps: Bergen-Belsen, Auschwitz, Buchenwald, Dachau, Mauthausen, and Chelmno.

The project must be presented on either poster board or in a written essay format. Written research facts must be presented in word processed form with printed draft and copy saved on classroom disk. This written research must be in students own words with source page in correct format.

Along with the written research, students will turn in a separate map with the concentration camp locations, and pictures from the internet to support their research.

Each student’s finished product should include an
Internet site review form explaining why they believed this site was a valid site with authentic information.

Students should proof read and edit their final product for sentence structure, punctuation, grammar usage, spelling, and organization.

5. Content - Research paper focuses on the assigned task and written 40 pts.
