Teacher's Lesson Goals/Objectives: The students will take a physical fitness test and enter their results into a database.  The database will help them determine if their scores are at acceptable levels.  Then students will chart their scores after their Spring test to see their growth or improvements.

Materials/Resources Needed:
Stop watch
Jump rope
Pull up bar
Mats
1/2 track
Datasheet to enter scores before entering them into the computer.
Laptop
AppleWorks database and spreadsheet
Printer
Paper

Pre Activities:
Set up physical fitness stations and computer station for entering data as they finish their tests.

Activities:
Fall
Students will rotate through the following stations: student ID number,  curl-ups, sit-ups, 1/2 mile jog, and jump rope and record their personal scores on a worksheet.
As students finish each going through all of the stations, students will enter their personal scores into a database.
Students will analyze the data in the database to see how many curl-ups, sit-ups, 1/2 mile jog, and jump rope to find the highest personal scores for each event.
Students will find the percentage of those who scored national average or above on each event.
Spring,
Students will rotate through the following stations:  curl-ups, sit-ups, 1/2 mile jog, and jump rope and record their personal scores on a worksheet.
As students finish each going through all of the stations, students will enter their personal scores into a database.
Students will analyze the data in the database to see how many curl-ups, sit-ups, 1/2 mile jog, and jump rope to find the highest personal scores for each event.
Student will analyze the data to see if they have improved and by how much.
Students will find the percentage of those who scored national average or above on each event.

Database information is copied and pasted into AppleWorks Spreadsheet and bar graphs are created to see increase in physical fitness of individuals. A pie graph will show the percent of students who made at or above national standards.

NOTE:  Small schools may skip the database activity and enter their information into a spreadsheet.
