Padilla Bay NERR, Washington State
answers our estuary question

Question

We can only harvest oysters during a few months of the winter (October
- February). When is your harvest season?
----

Answer
We can harvest oysters anytime as long as there isn’t any “red tide”
(paralytic shellfish poisoning) or pollution (i.e.; fecal coliform).
Red tide is more common in warm water so we have a “rule of thumb” that
advises only eating filter feeders in months that have an “R” in them,
(September, October… March, etc.)

Mrs. Hardesty's 8th grade classes research NC Counties using:

Weather.com to find average temperatures for their county seat. US Census State & County Quick Facts Online North Carolina Zip Codes to help them find the latitude and longitude for their county seat using Google Earth Google Search to find out the history of their county.  Just to name a few!

Mrs. Hardesty’s class is in the process of researching NC counties to learn more about each county’s history, statistics and geography.   They will use the information they researched and enter it into a database. The database helps organize their information as well as let them analyze and compare the counties.  Then they will create a presentation on their county on why you should visit the county they researched. Who knows, this may possibly help them make choices in places they would like to visit in NC one day.
