Colonial Life in Beaufort

The Beaufort Historical Association

We went to Beaufort to learn how people lived in Colonial times.
We saw how the people cooked over a fire. They only had food that they could grow or catch themselves.    They had to make their own clothes from wool and flax that they spun into thread.
We all got to dress up in clothes like the Colonial children wore. Girls had bonnets and aprons, while boys wore white shirts and 3 corner hats.
Next we went to the old jailhouse. The jailer's family lived on one side and the prisoners stayed on the other.

We learned how the people had to get milk from cows for drinking and making butter.

They carried the milk in pails to the house every day.

Outside the jail is the stockade.

That is where they put people when they were bad.

We tried it out, just for fun.

We were glad no one threw rotten vegetables at us!
After our visit to BHA, we went to Shevans Park to eat lunch and play. We love it there!

It was a great field trip. We learned a lot and we had lots of fun!
