Background of
Subject
Anita Kimball is a real estate agent who works with Sea
Level Real Estate. She lives Down East in the
community of Otway.
Description of Issue
There were several different issues discussed. First
the issue of how rapidly Carteret County is growing.
Next, the issue of how high property values have risen in
the last few years, and if they will continue to rise.
Lastly, the issue of the moratorium Down East, the effects
it will have on the value of the property and if it will
give the area time to plan how they want to develop.
Challenges
There are challenges with each of these issues.
One of the challenges for the rapid growth is that the roads
cannot handle the amount of traffic that comes with in
increase in population. The challenges with the high
property values are that the average person cannot afford to
buy a lot. The value of property in the county is
going to continue to rise which will make it harder for a
person just starting out or just graduating from college to
be able to afford to finance a house and property. The
challenges with the moratorium are whether it will even be
put into effect. It will not reduce the value of the
property because a year is not that long according to Ms.
Kimball for the types of development that the moratorium
will effect.
Solutions
One of
the possible solutions to the rapid growth Down East is the
moratorium. This will give the communities the
opportunity to look at the Land Use Plan. They want
the water quality parts of this plan to be in place before
bigger developments go any further. |
