Bobby Martin

Investigating salt marshes - the nursery of the sea!

Background on Bobby Martin

Mr. Bobby Martin started fishing when he was 15 or16 with an older man. After a few years he worked on the Gregory Poole he moved up to mate then he was the caption for 21 years. Know he is retired and does some commercial fishing with Mr. Ron Sparks. They do soft crabs and hard crabs and they use runaround nets, (that is different kinds of nets) to catch many types of fish.

Challenges

There are challenges for all the issues. One of the challenges for imported seafood is everyone is buying from them and not from the fishermen so they lose money and profit so they don’t have any way to support there family. The other challenges are pollution and development. If people keep throwing trash in the water and run off keeps happing then all of the fish and wildlife will die. Also if they keep trying to develop down east then all of the marsh grass and animals will die because there habitat and food supply will be destroyed.

Solutions

One of the possible solutions to the imported seafood issue is for them to raise there price to the same as the commercial fishermen so they would both have the same chance to sell the same seafood. Then that way no one would get more customers because one price is more low then the other.
