Data Analysis

    When we got back from trawling in Middens Creek we analyzed the data. We tried to find out if there was a difference in the total number of the fish in Middens Creek Open (MCO) and Midden's Creek Closed (MCC) in the fall. The total fish caught in MCO was 17. The total caught in MCC was 1949. The null hypothesis stated there is no difference. We ended up rejecting the null hypothesis. Statistically more fish were caught in MCC in the fall.

     We think that MCC had more fish than MCO. The reason we think this is MCC has no trawling. Because of no trawling it had more time to nurture.

    A second question we looked at was comparing  two areas that are closed to trawling. While analyzing the data we see which had the greater number of fish between MCC and Sleepy Creek in the past two years. Both of these area are closed to trawling. The total fish caught in Sleepy Creek was 930. While Midden Creek closed had only 93. The null hypothesis was there is no difference. We ended up rejecting it. More fish were caught in Sleepy Creek Closed then MCC in Summer.

    Third we compared the two areas area open to trawling over the past two years. There was a greater number of fish caught in MCO then Straits during the summer. We found this out by correctly analyzing this data. We accepted the Null Hypothesis. Statistically there is no difference between the number of fish. caught in MCO and Straits.

     Overall there has been more fish caught in the closed areas. These could be for a number of reason though. One could be trawling, another could be that the closed areas are just a better a habit. There could also be many other reason such as population. So that we can not make a conclusion just from this data.

Midden's Creek Closed=85 fish

Straits=20 fish
