HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! We
will take a break from our European project (M-W) and allow students an
opportunity to apply their newfound geography knowledge as they create
globes using pumpkins as a spherical canvas. Students will be expected to
spatially place continents, oceans, the Equator, the Prime Meridian,
parallels, meridians, and other features in their appropriate spot and
highlight major cities and geographic addresses. If I survive Halloween, we
will spend Thurs. & Fri. in the computer lab adding the final touches
to our power point presentations.
|
| Week of November 5th: |
| Students begin working
with world climates and learn about zones of latitude and factors
that contribute to changes in climate. Students are evaluating a
variety of maps and gaining understanding of how climate affects
societies. (Group activity) |
| Week of November 12th: |
| Due to computer testing,
we had to take a break from working on our power point research
projects. We will resume our efforts this week and finish the
historical timelines and economic factors relating to our chosen
European country. Students will edit and be prepared to
present projects next week. |
| Week of November 19th: |
| Happy Thanksgiving!!
Groups will share their power point presentations with the whole
class and will be actively involved recording facts/concepts about
European countries when their peers are presenting. |
| Week of November 26th: |
| "Anne Frank" field trip-
We will spend our time leading up to Thursday learning about the
holocaust and Anne Frank. This background knowledge will serve
as a building block for learning new information about the holocaust
from the play. |
| Week of December 3rd: |
| Revisit "Climate" unit and
read global accounts of the negative effects of current trends in
climate changes. Students will work interdependently posing possible
solutions to the problem. Students will start learning the location
of European countries as they continue to work with political maps
specific to Europe. |
| Week of December 10th: |
| "Holiday Traditions Around
the World" (Europe and South America) Students will "journey" around
the world learning about customs specific to European
countries. Students will be encouraged to make connections between
U.S. traditions and others practiced around the world.
