Ms. Sutton's 8th Grade Science Classroom

Ms. Sutton's 8th grade science classes follow the objectives set forth in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Topics outlined in the 8th grade curriculum include the Interrelationships between Matter and Energy, Changes in Landforms and Life throughout Geologic Time, Interrelationships between Microbiology and Disease, and a Systems Approach to Sustaining the Earth's Hydrosphere. Students will participate in hands-on activities and inquiry- and project-based research investigations throughout the course. Their research will allow them to explore changes that have occurred within the earth since the beginning of time and threats to our world and the population in the future.

In a total of four calls, each involving 12-13 different schools on the dates listed below, classrooms will be connected by AT&T Teleconference Services first with a correspondent on the R/V Atlantis, pictured at left, who will answer a series of questions about life aboard ship. Then the call will be transferred down to the seafloor, where each classroom may ask questions of the scientists working live in the sub at a depth of more than a mile!
