The North Pole is located in a region of the world known as The Arctic, which originates from the word "arctus" which means "bear." Follow this link for a satellite photo of the North Pole and the Arctic.

The South Pole is located in a region of the world known as Antarctica. The prefix "Ant" originates from the word for "no" or "without," hence the phrase "no bear." Follow this link for a satellite photo of the South Pole and Antarctica.
