| November 3-6: Vocabulary in context; writing
character profiles; making inferences; We will begin
reading The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle this
week. |

| November 10-14: Cores 1,2, and 4: We will read
through chapter 6 of The True Confessions of
Charlotte Doyle this week, paying attention to
setting, point of view, characterization, mood, and
foreshadowing. We will continue to use context clues to
determine the meanings of unfamiliar words. There will
be a comprehension test over chapters 1-6 on Friday.
Core 3: We will read through
chapter 12 of the novel this week, with a Socratic
Seminar over chapters 1-8 on Wednesday and a test over
chapters 1-12 on Friday. |

| November 17-21: Cores 1, 2, and 4: The chapter 1-6
test has been moved to Tuesday. We will aim to read
through chapter twelve with a chapter 1-12 test on
Friday. Core 3: Chapter 1-12 test
has been moved to Tuesday. We will spend Wednesday and
Thursday reviewing the chapter 13-17 study guide (and
character types) and preparing for our second Socratic
seminar to be hold on Friday.
After
school vocabulary test retake: Cores 1,3, and 4: Tuesday
after school and Core 2 will be Wednesday after school.
You must have your original test signed by a parent
indicating that you studied at least twenty minutes a
night prior to the retake, and you must have a ride no
later than 4:00. There will no exceptions to the time
and place of the retake. |

| November 24-26: Cores 1,2, and 4: We will study the
author's use of similes and metaphors this week. We will
discuss chapters thirteen and fourteen on Tuesday, and
chapter 15-16 are due on Tuesday, Dec. 2
Core 3: We will discuss the
function of theme in The True Confessions of
Charlotte Doyle. We will complete the final study
guide and review for the final test to be given on
Tuesday, Dec. 2.The next
reading practice card will be collected on Thursday,
December 4. |
